Don't forget:
In 1982, Benedict XVI wrote about traditional Catholics: "We must be on guard against minimizing these movements. Without a doubt, they represent a sectarian zealotry that is the antithesis of Catholicity. We cannot resist them too firmly" Joseph Ratzinger, Principles of Catholic Theology, Ignatius Press, 1987, pp. 389-90; German original: Katholische Prinzipienlehre, 1982).

Damage Control, Part 2:
Vatican scrambling to explain Communion for Protestant
Reality Check: The Novus Ordo Church has long allowed Communion for heretics in individual cases:
"Admission to Catholic eucharistic communion [can be] confined to particular cases of those Christians who have a faith in the sacrament in conformity with that of the Church, who experience a serious spiritual need for the eucharistic sustenance, who for a prolonged period are unable to have recourse to a minister of their own community, and who ask for the sacrament of their own accord..." --"Council for Promoting Christian Unity," In Quibus Rerum Circumstantiis, IV.2, June 1, 1972

"Conversion of Russia" Update:

91% of "Catholics" say Good People of other Faiths OK for Heaven
Could Ecumenism have something to do with that?

"The Church is in great danger....The Protestant doctrine and that of the schismatic Greeks are to spread everywhere. I now see that in this place (Rome) the (Catholic) Church is being so cleverly undermined, that there hardly remain a hundred or so priests who have not been deceived. They all work for destruction, even the clergy. A great devastation is now near at hand."
-- Ven. Anne Catherine Emmerich, October 1, 1820; in Catholic Prophecy by Yves Dupont, p.66

"New Springtime" has reached Norway

Awww...of course! Damage Control for Photographic Evidence:
See, "Cardinal" Ratzinger was tricked into giving Communion to this Protestant!
(If you can believe this, there is some property in Brooklyn we wish to sell you...)
But why the outrage? John Paul II himself allowed this: "While it is never legitimate to concelebrate [the Holy Mass] in the absence of full communion, the same is not true with respect to the administration of the Eucharist under special circumstances, to individual persons belonging to Churches or Ecclesial Communities not in full communion with the Catholic Church." --"Encyclical" Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no. 45 (2003)

Small Earthquake in Rome

"The Church will be punished because the majority of her members, high and low, will become so perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until she will at last seem to be extinguished, and the succession of Peter and the other Apostles to have expired. But, after this, she will be victoriously exalted in the sight of all doubters."
--St. Nicholas of Flue, in Catholic Prophecy by Yves Dupont, p. 30

Miami Archdiocese prepares for Consecration of "Prankster Bishop"

Read about the Miami Seminary's Dean of Students
Yes, didn't you know? God Incarnate is a "regular guy," and He changed history not so much because He died on the Cross for our sins but because of how He related to people. And this is the kind of priests they have in their seminaries....
Perhaps one day these people will understand that what attracts vocations is precisely that the true Catholic priest is not a "regular guy" but an alter Christus, ordained to offer the Holy Sacrifice, to bless, to absolve, to teach, to preach, etc. The sacred priesthood of Christ is about mystery, sacrifice, dignity, discipline, holy things, virtue, etc. It's amazing how these people are trying to attract priestly vocations by continually harping on how a priest is nothing special...

"A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them." --Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:18-20)

World Youth Day 2005 Coverage

No Sign that the Tide has Turned (duh)

Benedict smites the Catholic Church in his Address to the Muslims:
"How many pages of history record battles and even wars that have been waged, with both sides invoking the name of God, as if fighting and killing the enemy could be pleasing to him. The recollection of these sad events should fill us with shame, for we know only too well what atrocities have been committed in the name of religion. The lessons of the past must help us to avoid repeating the same mistakes. We must seek paths of reconciliation and learn to live with respect for each other's identity."
Reality Check: "I hear around me reformers who want to dismantle the Holy Sanctuary, destroy the universal flame of the Church, to discard all her adornments, and smite her with remorse for her historic past." --Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, later Pope Pius XII, to Count Enrico P. Galeazzi
So what about Pope St. Pius V, Our Lady of Victory, and the Battle of Lepanto?

Benedict XVI visits Synagogue (no, not to preach the Gospel), condemns Antisemitism, says Holocaust a "Manifestation of the Mystery of Iniquity," Calls for Respect, Collaboration, Praises Dignity of Man

Benedict in Wonderland:
Says "Catholic Church is committed ... to tolerance, respect, friendship and peace between all peoples, cultures and religions."
Reality Check:
"the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants." --Pope St. Pius X, "Our Apostolic Mandate," 1910
"The world has heard enough of the so-called 'rights of man.' Let it hear something of the rights of God." --Pope Leo XIII, Encyclical Tametsi, 1900

Reality Check: This "absolutely omits to make any mention of ... conversion of the whole substance of the bread into the body, and of the whole substance of the wine into the blood, which the Council of Trent defined as an article of faith" --Pope Pius VI, Apostolic Constitution Auctorem Fidei, n. 29 (Denz. 1529)

Benedict at the Synagogue:
"Both Jews and Christians recognize in Abraham their father in faith....look to the teachings of Moses and the prophets."

Reality Check: "They [the Jews] answered and said to him [Jesus Christ]: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not. You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God. Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded and came. For I came not of myself: but he sent me. Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. You are of your father the devil: and the desires of your father you will do...." (John 8:39-44); "Think not that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one that accuseth you, Moses, in whom you trust. For if you did believe Moses, you would perhaps believe me also: for he wrote of me" (John 5:45-46).

Benedict XVI says Protestant Heretic is in Heaven

Reality Check: "Nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed his blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church." --Council of Florence, 1442
"Some of these misguided people attempt to persuade themselves and others that men are not saved only in the Catholic religion, but that even heretics may attain eternal life." --Pope Gregory XVI, Encyclical Summo Iugiter Studio, 1832
So now the secret is out: everyone goes to Heaven, except Traditional Catholics!
--It is clear that Benedict XVI does not have the Catholic Faith--

At John Paul II Funeral, Benedit XVI gave Communion to Known Heretic
(This is nothing new, though, for Fr. Ratzinger, as this article shows)

"God is entirely Relationship"--St. Thomas not Ratzinger's Master

Reality Check: "We admonish professors to bear well in mind that they cannot set aside St. Thomas, especially in metaphysical questions, without grave disadvantage. "Thomas should be called not only the Angelic, but also the Common or Universal Doctor of the Church; for the Church has adopted his philosophy for her own, as innumerable documents of every kind attest" --Pope Pius XI, Encyclical Studiorum Ducem on St. Thomas, par. 11, 1923

John Paul "the Great" Update:
"The prayer meeting in the sanctuary at Lake Togo was particularly striking. There I prayed for the first time with animists." (from La Croix, Aug. 23, 1985; qtd. in Peter, Lovest Thou Me?, p. 154)
This is not surprising, for in Redemptor Hominis, John Paul II encouraged "prayer in common" with "the representatives of the non-Christian religions" (par. 6).

New Worship Space: "Impressive and Beautiful"?

"Now you know well that the most deadly foes of the Catholic religion have always waged a fierce war, but without success, against this Chair; they are by no means ignorant of the fact that religion itself can never totter and fall while this Chair remains intact; the Chair which rests on the rock which the proud gates of hell cannot overthrow and in which there is the whole and perfect solidity of the Christian religion."
