"Archbishop" Gregory: 'Flip-Flops are Welcome at my Mass'
Says Gregory: "I must confess that I have never been offended or scandalized by any attire that I have seen our kids wear to Church" -- but the problem is probably with him then: just because he isn't offended doesn't mean it's not offensive. The Catholic position on this issue is very simple: the church is the house of God and one must be dressed respectfully because God is present there. For ladies, no slacks, no low-cut, no sleeveless, but dress or skirts, veil, modest clothing. For gents, Sunday best, suit and tie or similar, no sneakers, etc.

"But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me" --Holy Words of the "Inclusive" Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:33-38)

"No Rupture with the Past" Update:
The Vatican II Church and Ecumenism vs. Pope Pius XII and the Catholic Church:
"If Christians, despite their divisions, can grow ever more united in common prayer around Christ, they will grow in the awareness of how little divides them in comparison to what unites them. If they meet more often and more regularly before Christ in prayer, they will be able to gain the courage to face all the painful human reality of their divisions, and they will find themselves together once more in that community of the Church which Christ constantly builds up in the Holy Spirit, in spite of all weaknesses and human limitations." --John Paul II, "Encyclical" Ut Unum Sint, par. 22, 1995
Reality Check:
"...be on guard lest, on the false pretext that more attention should be paid to the points on which we agree than to those on which we differ, a dangerous indifferentism be encouraged, especially among persons whose training in theology is not deep and whose practice of their faith is not very strong. For care must be taken lest, in the so-called 'irenic' spirit of today, through comparative study and the vain desire for a progressively closer mutual approach among the various professions of faith, Catholic doctrine --either in its dogmas or in the truths which are connected with them-- be so conformed or in a way adapted to the doctrines of dissident sects, that the purity of Catholic doctrine be impaired, or its genuine and certain meaning be obscured." --Instruction of the Holy Office on Ecumenism, 1949

Benedict XVI cheers Religious Liberty for "Harmonious Social Development"
It is clear that Benedict does not advocate a Catholic (or even Christian) Civilization
Reality Check:
"the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants." --Pope St. Pius X, "Our Apostolic Mandate", 1910
Benedict XVI: "The only path that can lead to peace and fraternity is respect for the convictions and religious practices of others."
Oh, yeah? Contrast that with real Catholic Popes teaching real Catholic doctrine:
"Men must look for the peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ... When once men recognize, both in private and in public life, that Christ is King, society will at last receive the great blessings of real liberty, well-ordered discipline, peace and harmony." --Pope Pius XI, Encyclical Quas Primas, par. 1,19, 1925
"The peace of Christ ... is the only true peace" --Pope Pius XI, Encyclical Ubi Arcano Dei, par. 37, 1922
"Jesus has loved us with an immense, infinite love, and He came on earth to suffer and die so that, gathered around Him in justice and love, motivated by the same sentiments of mutual charity, all men might live in peace and happiness. But for the realization of this temporal and eternal happiness, He has laid down with supreme authority the condition that we must belong to His Flock, that we must accept His doctrine, that we must practice virtue, and that we must accept the teaching and guidance of Peter and his successors. Further, whilst Jesus was kind to sinners and to those who went astray, He did not respect their false ideas, however sincere they might have appeared. He loved them all, but He instructed them in order to convert them and save them." --Pope St. Pius X, Letter "Our Apostolic Mandate", 1910

PAPAL WISDOM:
"...at the hour of His precious death [Christ] willed that His Church should be enriched with the abundant gifts of the Paraclete in order that in dispensing the divine fruits of the Redemption she might be, for the Incarnate Word, a powerful instrument that would never fail. For both the juridical mission of the Church, and the power to teach, govern and administer the Sacraments, derive their supernatural efficacy and force of the building up of the body of Christ from the fact that Jesus Christ, hanging on the Cross, opened up to His Church the fountain of those divine gifts, which prevent her from ever teaching false doctrine and enable her to rule them for the salvation of their souls through divinely enlightened pastors and to bestow on them an abundance of heavenly graces." --Pope Pius XII, Encyclical Mystici Corporis, par. 31, 1943
Yes, the Catholic Church cannot fail and cannot teach false doctrine. This proves once more that the Novus Ordo Church cannot be the Catholic Church.

Fellay even says, regarding the intermediate step of having a "free traditional Mass" only for the SSPX, that "maybe we will have to go through this stage, yes, it is even probable," when at first the freeing of the Mass for all was a condition to even begin a reconciliation!
Putting the Perspectives into Perspective:
Orthodox and Protestant Ecumenists happy with a Pope who agrees not to be Pope?
Yes, but so is Benedict XVI: "[I]t would be worth our while to consider whether [the schismatic Patriarch Athenagoras'] archaic confession [of Paul VI's "primacy"], which has nothing to do with the 'primacy of jurisdiction' but confesses a primacy of 'honor'
and agape [love], might not be recognized as a formula that adequately reflects the position Rome occupies in the Church" (Joseph Ratzinger, Principles of Catholic Theology, Ignatius Press, 1987, p. 217).
Reality Check: "If anyone thus speaks, that the Roman Pontiff has only the office of inspection or direction, but not the full and supreme power of jurisdiction over the universal Church, not only in things which pertain to faith and morals, but also in those which pertain to the discipline and government of the Church spread over the whole world

Interesting:
Major Novus Ordo Magazine criticizes 'Siri Thesis'
Now that is CURIOUS. How many people hold to the Siri Thesis in this world? Maybe one or two thousand? There are perhaps more Flat Earth believers than Siri believers, i.e., Catholics who are convinced Cardinal Siri was the true Pope from 1958-89. Why in the world would a Novus Ordo magazine of such stature deal with the Siri thesis? Isn't this a bit like the National Review writing an article about 35 people in the U.S. who believe that Walter Mondale was elected President in 1984? Novus Ordo Watch has long indicated that Cardinal Siri might have been elected in the 1958 conclave (see here) -- the whole point really being not so much that this particular cardinal was elected but that it is plausible that some cardinal other than Roncalli was elected first. Why is the New Vatican so interested in getting people not to believe this? Regarding the error of the Silvio Negro article (here), we apologize for the error but must note that we relied on an Italian-English translator, who had assured us that the correct way to understand the article was to understand the reference to the note passed on to Vatican Radio as being a reference to the 1958 conclave, not the 1939 conclave. In any case, the Siri thesis does not stand or fall with this article. Another curious item: It was Inside the Vatican itself, in its September 2004 issue, that quoted Fr. Charles-Roux as follows: "There were certain irregularities about the election during that 1958 conclave, as Cardinal Tisserant has himself acknowledged. Some say Agagianian was elected, others Siri [!!], others some other cardinal, and that the camerlengo then annulled the election. In any case, I'm quite sure John XXIII chose his name, the name of an antipope [of the 15th century], quite consciously, to show he had been irregularly elected" (p. 41).

SSPX's Fr. Schmidberger: Better Novus Ordo than Sedevacantist!
(scroll to February 9 entry)
Thank you, this says it all. Somehow Sedevacantism is the unforgiveable sin, even for many Neo-Traditionalists. But why? A sedevacantist practices the Catholic Faith whole and entire -- he simply is convinced that Benedict XVI is not the Pope and not a Catholic (and therefore he is not subject to him) -- and this is supposed to be worse than practicing the Novus Ordo religion, which is a mixture of humanism, syncretism, indifferentism, and modernism? One wonders: Why this sudden outburst of opposition and hatred towards sedevacantism? First the indult/Remnant crowd, then the SSPX, the St. Benedict Center, and now the February 2006 issue of Inside the Vatican also takes up the issue of sedevacantism to an extent. What is going on?
