Picnic 'Mass'

From July 2002 comes this photo of a picnic "Mass," apparently in San Fernando, California, held for members of the once-Catholic Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The young "lector" in miniskirt (or very short shorts) and sleeveless blouse reading from a missalette was a lay Oblate leader at the time. The causal, come-as-you-are nature of this "worship service" can further be seen in other parts of the photo: In the foreground stands another woman in sleeveless blouse and without head covering; immediately above her right shoulder are people seated on the grass and above the missalette is a man in a sleeveless tee shirt.
